Objectives:

     Students will be able to:  1) recognize that many of their actions are 
habits 2)realize that littering is a habit that has a negative impact on the 
environment. 

Materials Needed:

brown envelopes, writing material, cardboard cutouts
  
Strategy:

Divide the class into three groups.  Assign each group a type of litterbug
to portray from the following list:
     1.  The Sport Bug-This litterbug loves to attend all types of sporting
         events and cheers his team on.  In between his cheers, he samples
         every type of food from the concession stand and leaves a pile
         of food wrappings under his seat.
     2.  The Smoking Bug-A trail of cigarette butts is evidence of this
         bug.  Some smoking bugs are especially thoughtless and dangerous
         and throw down cigarettes that are still burning.
     3.  The Traveling Bug-This bug is constantly on the go.  When traveling
         in his car [one of his favorite pastimes] he can be seen 
         continually throwing out of his window [another favorite pastime].

Performance Assessment:

     The students will demonstrate their creative ability by performing
the skits.  While performing the skits the students will show how people
contribute to litter.

Conclusions:

     The students can change bad habits.  To change a bad habit, first
you have to be aware of what you are doing when you are doing it.  From
this activity, students will realize how their litter effects the  
environment and make choices to change.
